What is romantic love? How is it defined in the Akashic Records?

Romantic love is the thing that occurs when your feeling of love overcomes the other functions of your human self. It occurs when your feeling of love eclipses your rationally thinking and the needs of your body. You imagine yourselves to be fragmented beings. You have created a human form in which you imagine that your body, your mind, and your spirit are each separate entities. This is a central aspect of the human experience. With this sense of fragmentation, you can imagine that these separate parts of you are in a race – at one moment you feel that your body takes the lead, then your mind jumps ahead, then your heart overtakes them both, and so on. Many of the phrases you commonly use reflect the idea that at any given moment, one of those parts of you is leading the way. You say, “My instincts took over,” or “Mind over matter” when you try to convince yourself to think your way out of something you feel.

If romantic love is the thing that occurs when your love for someone or something outside yourself eclipses everything else, then it is not necessarily the same definition as you have in your societal definition. True romantic love goes way beyond having a soul mate or a lover; instead it can be a way of life. This often happens for just a moment, but can last for an entire day or even an entire year. Typically it is for a moment because it is not easy for any person to have one part of themselves in the lead for too long. In order to remain balanced, most of you allow the lead position to be exchanged among the various parts of yourselves….

As you move into Enlightenment, it is no longer necessary to be fragmented. You do not need to wait for your heart to take the lead in order to be in Love. The societal notion of romantic love becomes less relevant to you as you fall into a bigger love with yourself, the people around you, and every moment of your life!.....

Are relationships necessary for us to grow?

Relationships are absolutely necessary for you to grow. None of you will move through Enlightenment without working in relationships.

Romantic relationships, however, may or may not be necessary. Romantic relationships, as they have been defined by society, are necessary for some of you and completely unnecessary for others. For some of you, romantic relationships can be a gateway to deeper Love; for others they can be intense distractions from finding your truest sense of Love.

How can we tell if romantic relationships are useful arenas for growth for us personally?

Imagine the feeling of sunlight flooding a room. There is a different quality of light on a cloudy day or on a sunny day. Take this sense of the quality of light, and use it to define how you sense light in your romantic situation. If you find that you feel more clear, as if your life is flooded with daylight, when you are not with your romantic partner or when you are outside a relationship, then it is likely that romantic partnerships create a distraction for you from finding your deepest, truest sense of self-love. On the other hand, if you feel as if your life is flooded with daylight when you are with your partner – not in the initial drama of falling in love, but in the long term, mundane experience of the relationship – then you may find that your romantic partnership can be a vehicle by which to reach a deeper state of Enlightenment.

Ask yourself, and be honest, “Can I think more clearly in this relationship?” “Do things become easier when I am in this relationship?” If they do, move forward with the partnership. If they do not, consider that there may be dynamics in the partnership that are distracting you from your path........
